Yur's Bar & Grill, Women's

Yur's is a long-standing favorite of the dive-bar enthusiast, so it was only a matter of time before I added it to my rotation! The bar boasts attentive, and quick-witted bar-staff, a dynamite prime rib, and 3 or 4 pool tables. The bar is spotted with regulars, which always gives me a good feeling about a place.

Twenty First Ave Kitchen & Bar, All-Gender

Twenty First Ave (previously 21st Ave Bar and Grill) has been a favorite of mine since I moved to the neighborhood 5+ years ago. They have my favorite patio to visit in summer or even on a mild fall afternoon. They've been slowly but noticeably improving the place for as long as I've been going there, and while I'm disappointed that they no longer host a trivia night, their karaoke is typically slow to start so you can get some songs in, and their Monday night "super tacos", and awesome bar-staff have made me a weekly visitor.

Living Room Theaters, Women's

Tucked into this fancy movie theater is a fancy bathroom- or so it seems on first glance. You pass an ultra modern sink as you enter, thinking, "Where does the water even go?" They've eliminated the basin almost entirely. You have a while to think about this on the long walk to the stalls.

Gravy, Men's

Serving the first floor of the building Gravy occupies there are two shared bathrooms located in the lobby out the back door from the restaurant. After using a code that is located on a large sign as you leave the restaurant you will enter a fairly modern and subdued space to attend to business.

In the men's room there is one accessible stall with a baby changing station and one urinal. In the air there are is a slight chemical and fruit smell coming from an air freshener. Toilet paper is a very soft two ply, but quite thin, almost transparent.

Revolution Hall, Men's

On the ground floor of the Revolution Hall complex, the bathroom is about what you would expect from a high volume, mixed use venue. The aroma as you enter is of urinal cakes, but not overly offensive and necessary in a facility of this traffic.

Ambiance is lacking, the stalls are constructed of anti-graffiti dimpled aluminum. Understandably this is a function over all else restroom.

All in all it serves its purpose in a non offensive way, and knowing the volume of use was kept quite clean.

Ex Novo Brewing Co., All-Gender

Ex Novo has wonderful single person facilities, the highlight of which is the free baby wipes, diapers, and nice changing table in both unisex bathrooms.

Ground Kontrol, Men's

Connecting the old Ground Kontrol location with the new digs is a hallway with two multi-user bathrooms. You won't get a personal light show experience here, but this is still worth visiting. The entire bathroom is Pac-Man themed, featuring "1UP" and "2UP" text over the two urinals, ghosts on the walls, and other callouts to the classic arcade game. There are two stalls, one accessible, with auto flushing black toilets and single ply toilet paper.

Ground Kontrol, All Gender

In the new, front section of Ground Kontrol that used to be the beloved cyber cafe and music venue Backspace, there are two single user all gender restrooms that are definitely worth the visit, even if you're not that into arcade games. The restroom I visited was spacious, entirely metal and featured an intricate light show in the ceiling that provides a great deal of entertainment while on the john. If you press the light-switch, the room will go dark and the lights will go into a kind of pulsating sequence that lasts about 30 seconds.

Powell's Books, Mens

Located in the "Purple Room" on the third floor, this discrete, functional restroom is probably one of the most trafficked by Portland's tourists. I imagine a lot of people get desperate finding it, but if you get lost know it's tucked away in what looks like a utility closet across from the self-help section. Inside you'll find three automatic faucets, two hand dryers, three urinals, and two stalls, one of which is accessible.
